About Us...

The Bellevue Special Olympics program is one of several delegations in the East Region under Special Olympics Nebraska. Our neighboring delegations include: Omaha, Papillion, Ralston, and Cass County. The bellevue program as it is known today, began in 2009 when the Bellevue Stars and the Sarpy County Unified Bowling team merged to form one delegation - Bellevue Special Olympics. Today we are comprised of more than 95 athletes, 125+ volunteers, and offer 7 competitive sports. Our program is 100% voluntary across the board, from the officers and coaches, to the athletes in each sport.

Though the program is built upon the olympic foundation of competition, we preach "have fun" first and foremost. We always maintain a family environment and encourage participation from friends and family whenever possible. We thoroughly enjoy every moment we get to spend together, and hope you choose to join the Bellevue Special Olympic Family!

Our Mission...

Our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with thier families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Our goal is that all persons with intellectual disabilities have the chance to become useful and productive citizens who are accepted and respected in their communities.

The benefits for our athletes are tremendous, including improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence, friendships, a more positive self-image and increased family support.
